For me, the aim of counselling and psychotherapy is to help a person live a more fulfilling and enriched life.

My services

I offer short-term and long-term counselling and psychotherapy to individuals from all age groups, from young adults (18+) to those in later life.

My aim is to provide a safe and confidential space in which any topic may be explored without judgement.

Counselling provides an opportunity to talk to a trained professional about concerns and issues that might be difficult to share with family and friends. It is a chance to feel supported, gain insight and make positive changes.

I have a particular interest in working with people whose concerns or anxieties date back to childhood and teenage years, and how this might impact on their work and relationships.

I’m also interested in exploring spiritual, religious and philosophical concerns.

Lao Tzu about the journey

about mike brooks

I have been involved with counselling since 2009. I have both a diploma and a Masters degree in counselling and psychotherapy, and I’m an accredited member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

For me, counselling is not about giving advice or telling you what to do. Rather, my aim is to help you to explore challenging thoughts, feelings and situations so you can find a way forward.

Sometimes there is a particular issue that needs addressing, perhaps an addiction or the death of a loved one. For some, a traumatic experience or a difficult childhood has left a deep wound. Sometimes there is a need to find practical solutions to deal with complicated work or relationship issues.

Therapy mostly involves talking, but it can also be helpful to use breathing exercises, meditation or mindfulness.

booking

Please get in touch to find out more or to book an initial consultation. You can call, text or email. I aim to get back to you within 24 hours (longer if a weekend).

The first meeting is a chance to find out whether counselling is right for you and to discuss how we might proceed.

Counselling will take the form of a 50-minute appointment during which we can explore your concerns together. At our first meeting we can agree on an initial number of appointments, which can be reviewed as we go along.

supervision

I have a Certificate in Supervision from Re-Vision, London, and I’m currently working towards a Supervision Diploma, which means I’m happy to charge a half-price fee for our first five sessions of supervision.
As an integrative therapist, I can offer supervision in your modality. I can also offer ideas to help widen your way of working. I specialise in working relationally, with a focus on psychodynamic theory, parts work (such as subpersonalities) and trauma. My goal is to support you in your client work, help you to build your private practice, and support you in your well-being as a therapist.
